Call for Papers for the 11th Women in Asia Conference

25th Jan 2017

This Conference was an initiative of the Women’s Caucus (now Women’s Forum) of the Asian Studies Association of Australia (ASAA) back in 1981. In 2017 the Conference will be held at the University of Western Australia, 26-28 September.

Women in the Asian Century: Challenges and Possibilities

With a particular thematic focus on 'Gender-Based Violence', the 2017 WIA conference aims to draw together scholars and activists working on this issue in Asia and Australia, to foster a discussion on the various challenges and strategies involved in addressing Violence Against Women in different contexts.

We also welcome presentations on issues outside the conference theme, on issues relating to women in Asia, including (but not limited to): work; health; media and popular culture; politics and social movements; social relations; life stages and transitions and sexuality.

WIA 2017 will include a postgraduate workshop and will offer limited travel bursaries (details coming soon).

We welcome papers and panels from scholars and practitioners from Asia, as well as local and domestic participants from the community sector, academia and government.

Deadline for submissions: 31 March 2017
